NileGuide Expert Says:
There's plenty of parking and grills to cook, and the covered shelters can be rented by the day for a minimal fee. Great beach for the native beach lover and families. The water there is nice and calm, and there is a decent playground area for the children. The Cape Florida Lighthouse is also there, definitely worth checking out if you are interested in experiencing more than just sand and surf.
Description:
- Voted one of the "Top 10 Beaches in the United States," the park's 1.25 miles of wide, sandy beachfront offers visitors exceptional Atlantic swimming 365 days a year from 8 A.M. to sunset. The park provides a valuable resource for those wishing to snorkel, fish, picnic, windsurf, bicycle, sunbathe and more.
Shore anglers tend to congregate in the region around the seawall located along the Biscayne Bay. Florida does require a saltwater fishing license.
Eighteen picnic pavilions and a number of open-sky tables make this sight a southern Florida popular day use destination.
The highly developed park offers The Lighthouse Café which features casual oceanfront dining in a relaxed open-air setting. A concession offers a variety of rentals.
Visitors also come to the park for its abundant wildlife viewing opportunities including nesting sea turtles and a plethora of birdlife. Biking and hiking trails provide a closer look at the plant communities and wildlife habitats. Don't forget to keep an eye out over the ocean for small schools of dolphins. Directions: From U.S. Highway 1 take the Rickenbacker Causeway over to Key Biscayne and follow south to the end.
