Branto - Kowloon
  • Cuisines: Indian, Vegetarian
  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Please don't order the lamb vindaloo or tandoori chicken - instead try the pani puri, original indian molecular cuisine fried hollow balls of dough to be filled with spiced condiments and rosewater.

  • Description:

    • It is easy to miss the friendly Branto sign amongst a multitude of bright lettering, flashing neon and flimsy looking bamboo scaffolding on this busy Kowloon street. But make the effort to find the entrance (battered looking door) and climb the dusty, unloved stairs to this 1st floor gem. The walls are decked with murals of rural India and in one corner a flat screen entertains patrons with Bollywood-style music videos. Branto staff serve up authentic vegetarian Indian food at rock bottom prices in one of the world's most expensive cities. The menu is extensive, and they helpfully provide a blue ring-binder with photos of all the dishes for diners who are unfamiliar with the cuisine offered. Metal bowls of creamy sag paneer, crisp massala poppadoms scattered with cardamom seeds, and hearty, filling dosas are only a few of the dishes worth a try. - Jen Wight
