Description:

  • Alef used to be known as Ariel; in fact, at one point there were as many as three establishments competing for that coveted name. In the end, it changed its name to Alef. This is one of the finest restaurants in all of Kraków, with great food and an entertaining, wonderful old-world atmosphere. Alef prides itself on its decor. Various genuine antiques have been used as tables and chairs. The walls are covered with historic paintings and chandeliers hang overhead. The management's attempts at recreating an old-Europe atmosphere have been hugely successful. On most evenings there is live music - usually Klezmer, gypsy or folk. The decor sets the mood for the food, which is as authentic and impressive as the surroundings. While not strictly kosher, the food is traditionally Jewish. Dishes such as gefilte fish and fried goose liver have earned the restaurant gourmet status among the locals. Please call for open hours.
