Hakka Republic is mainly a restaurant – an opulent oriental creation with a cluster of private rooms, an art-deco bar and large dining room that harks back to the sultry cabaret era of Shanghai in the 1930s. Throw live music into the mix and you have the perfect venue for top level entertaining. Go down memory lane every Friday with some Shanghai jazz while Saturdays welcome the best in R&B, blues and jazz. It's a mix of flavor every Wednesday when the music shifts from funk and fusion to Latin and jazz. If you're there for the food, just know that Hakka Republic doesn't serve anything Chinese – theirs' is a Western menu with a Japanese slant.
