  • KL's live music scene is roaring back to life. The city has a wide range of bars that serve up good live acts. These venues vary from small, intimate bars to large, loud clubs. Home-grown acts have been garnering a lot of attention; foreign big bands are bringing a dose of high-end entertainment to the city. The acts are mostly a mix of jazz, pop, R&B, and Latin. Young, edgy artists are turning club stages into platforms to showcase their brand of music. It's time to paint the town red with the help of our guide to the best places for some quality live music.

Topping the list is the long established No Black Tie - intimate and personal, No Black Tie is an obvious choice. Up and coming musicians share the stage with local legends in this contemporary space, with excellent acoustics. The vibe, here, is great - you'll always find artists, poets and writers mingling together. Coming in a close second is Alexis Bistro in Ampang. Alexis Bistro along with No Black Tie has long been championing young jazz artists. Come weekends, the restaurant and bar transforms to accommodate musicians and an enthusiastic crowd who come to see popular local jazz musicians and some internationally renowned acts.

The laidback Labodega Lounge makes it to the number-three spot. Every Wednesday, the Lounge brings to its stage a mix of live comedy and local bands, spanning all genres. It's a great place for an introduction into the local music circuit - headliners and regulars who keep the city's live music scene pumping.Head to our number-four pick, The Hard Rock Café KL, for its legendary rockin atmosphere. KL's Hard Rock Café is currently showcasing local band, Deviate, every Monday to Saturday. These days at the Hard Rock, it's not strictly rock and roll - Deviate entertains with performances that include Latin, Pop, Hip Hop and RnB.

New to the scene is Hakka Republic Wine Bar & Bistro, which has slowly been garnering quite a following. The draw - live entertainment that's not typically found elsewhere. At Hakka Republic, expect the sounds of Shanghai Jazz to reverberate every Friday within the restaurant's opulent surroundings.
