  • It's important to know the restaurants that cater for kids if you're traveling with your family. KL has seen a proliferation of these types of restaurants and cafes in recent years. Most have a specially crafted kids menu and some are even furnished with a special kid's play area to keep little ones occupied.

Unlike generations before, KL's kids are bravely venturing into restaurants and cafes with their parents and therefore, have set into motion a new trend. It is getting easier to find restaurants and cafes that cater to this group of diners. Both parents and kids will find restaurants with menus that can satisfy their appetites. Generally most restaurants get creative with their main menus but opt for the tried and tested dishes to keep little ones happy. There are a few eateries that have gone beyond. Here chefs are churning out special kids menus with healthy, nutritious dishes for their young diners and their demanding palettes. Some of these restaurants come with designated play areas and organize kid's activities, which in return give mummies and daddies a well-deserved break.

Topping our list is Fit For 2. The mastermind behind Fit For 2 (a mom herself) knows what mums and their kids want. Expect healthy, home-made food, a play area, a private nursing area and a baby changing area complete with nappies. The menu has just as healthy dishes for adults with a good selection of breakfast dishes and creative wraps and sandwiches. Antipodean Café comes in at number two because it is one of the most hip coffee places to be at. The best thing is parents don't have to be excluded- with the specially designated kids play area, parents can enjoy their java while little ones keep busy with toys, games or with a video. Even though they may not have a specially designed menu for kids, little ones can have what their parents are having - eggs and sausages, cinnamon dusted French toast with bacon and maple syrup. At number three is Out Of Africa, the city's only South African restaurant. Kids (and parents) will love the extensive mini jungle-like playground and the special kids menu featuring some African fare.
