Top 10:

Outdoors Things to Do in Kuala Lumpur

  • The Best of NileGuide

  • Much of KL's beauty lies outdoors, away from air-conditioned malls, museums and art galleries. Out in the open the city's parks and gardens beckon; nature seems to be the city's main attraction. We've compiled a list that will not only satisfy nature buffs but also those looking for an adrenalin rush out in the open and under the city's vast blue skies.

Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve & KL Tower tops our list. Explore some forest trails before topping it off with the Flying Fox - where you'll soar over the city's treetops. The Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens and KLCC Park make for quick getaways from the city's hustle and bustle and get voted to the second and third positions respectively. Both parks have sprawling grounds - Lake Gardens, however, has an extra edge over the KLCC Park because close by to the Lake Gardens are the bird park and butterfly farm. The Petronas Twin Towers loom over the KLCC Park - take a stroll through the park while the kids enjoy the wading pool and the park's expansive play area.

We've selected the fireflies at Kuala Selangor as our number four outdoor pick. Nothing beats this experience - we promise it will be one of the most amazing trips you'll make to watch the twinkling fireflies light up the night. The Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary comes in at number five - another out-of-this -world experience in the wild where you get to feed, stroke, ride and even swim with the elephants. Both these outdoor activities require you to travel out of the city.
