Description:

  • Sek Yuen is a 50-year-old kopitiam (coffee house) – an icon that's garnered a cult-like following among the city's food lovers. You will find that there's no written menu here. The kitchen is entirely fired by wood, churning out old-style cooked Chinese dishes. The staff will recommend favorites such as fried fish smothered in sweet and sour sauce, stir-fried kale with garlic, pei pa duck (sun-dried duck served with sour plum sauce), and stuffed pork trotter. There are two sections to the restaurant; one a more updated space with air-conditioning and the other is the original with ceiling fans. This is a family business so much of the flavor and feel of the past has been retained.
