- One of the three shopping streets on the ground floor of the popular Central Market, Lorong Melayu (Malay Street) is full of little shops specializing in local handicrafts and products. Browse through the colorful batik fabrics, unique shadow puppets, buffalo skin kites, beaded jewelry and woven bamboo baskets, then pop into a store like Sabah to shop for hand-carved wooden masks and souvenir blow-guns made by the aboriginal people of Malaysian Borneo. Malaysia's natural products are also well represented with organic tea, dried exotic fruits, curry pastes, and more for sale at bargain prices. The Central Market is also a great place for an introduction to other facets of Malay culture like fashion, dance, and music – all free! -Tanya Procyshyn
