The Royal Selangor Pewter Factory is the largest in the world. Prior bookings are necessary as it is quite popular. Many travel agencies conduct tours to the factory.

  • Description:

    • Nothing beats a visit to the School of Hard Knocks at the Royal Selangor Pewter Factory, some 20 minutes out of the city center. Anyone ages 5 and up can get involved by duplicating the action of pewter-smiths: knock and bash to manipulate a sheet of pewter into a dish with hammers and mallets. Then, take it up a notch by using scrapers and wooden molds. Visitors will be guided through the processes of forming, scraping, polishing and packing pewter. The finished dish, engraved with your initials, is yours to keep. The School of Hard Knocks promises lots of fun especially for little hands, feet and minds to get their creative start. The center's interactive gallery with belles to ring, computer games, tactile surfaces and tons of pewter hand-prints keep visitors busy. A tour of the pewter factory nearby is a must, especially for older kids. This is a highly appropriate activity given that KL city began as a tin mining town.
