Chorakuji Temple

Chorakuji Temple - Kyoto

  • Description:

    • Chorakuji dates from 805 and is set in the verdant foothills of the Higashiyama mountains. Noted for an eleven-faced statue of Kanzenon (the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara) and a flag made from the clothes of the Emperor Antoku. Summer sunsets in the peaceful temple grounds are often enlivened by flights of rare flying squirrels.
