Shiramine Shrine

Description:

  • An oddity among the shrines of Kyoto, Shiramine has become associated with kemari, an ancient game where colorfully-dressed priests stand in a circle and keep a ball in the air soccer-style. Amateur and professional ball-players alike come here to pray for sporting success and freedom from injury. Signed baseballs and footballs are on display in the main hall. Admission is free.
