Hello. The Kyoto and Nara areas are very-beautiful,and there is a lot to see,do and experience. There are the popular tourist destinations, where thousands flock to.Or there are the out-of-the-way places, where you can enjoy and appreciate the serenity on offer.Within the Kyoto city area, there is Nijo Castle,Fushimi-Inari,Kiomizu Temple,to name a few.A bit further out is Arashiyama,Daigi-ji Temple,Kurama.Nara City has Nara-koen (Park).I could go on-and-on.As far as experiencing Cherry Blossom, well you will be too early for that.April/May are the best times and, even then, you have about a week to experience that. But,in saying that, anywhere there is Cherry Blossom in bloom,is a good place to experience this beauty. Please feel to contact me again for further information and,if need be,I will be more than happy to show you around.

The big three that you shouldn't miss if you go to Kyoto are; Kinkakuji, Ginkakuji and Ryoanji. Golden Pavilion, Silver Pavilion and Zen rock garden, respectively. Additionally, Tiger leaping Garden is nice and the Philosopher's path is good for cherry blossoms. Be aware it is extremely crowded during cherry blossom viewing and you should make hotel reservations well in advance (now might be too late, in fact).

To answer you quite simply , everywhere and anywhere is beyond belief here at cherry time, the problem this year is the weather and being here when they flower, ??? and try to stay somewhere near the Kamogawa River near downtown between Oike st. and Gojo Street as its cherries everywhere and most of the famous places are near by, and get a guide book and go to all of them i.e. Nijo Castle , the Philosopher's walk and definitely join in with the locals and party at the Maruyama Koen Park for the Hanna- mi ( cherry viewing ) . In the daytime a rental bicycle will help you see more and take you off the main roads , its already getting warmer so they flower with the heat so even if some places are finishing other places are just starting !!!! there is a good tourist info place near Kyoto station that will give you an update especially now as some Temples light up at night . Enjoy , it will lighten your heart .

Exactly like everyone else has said, EVERYTHING in Kyoto is worth seeing. It is hard to walk down the street without seeing something wonderful. A good guide book and a good pair of walking shoes are all you really need to enjoy all Kyoto has to offer. Cherry blossoms are probably going to be a bit late this year since we are having a VERY cold March. They can be quite tricky and hard to predict but from early April on, they should be showing their face.
