    • La Mesa's beer-themed celebration is a giant block party in the downtown village area, for which the streets are closed off to vehicles. At more than 400 booths, you can buy arts and crafts, commercial items and food. Admission is free. But in a large nearby parking lot, you can pretend you're in Munich, entertained by oom-pah-pah bands, dancers waltzing and bouncing around to the polka. Among the fare for sale are grilled bratwurst, pretzels, soda, and beer on tap. Since parking can be bad, the best bet is to ride the new Green trolley line from the Mission Valley area - take it to Grossmont Center and transfer to the Orange Line) - it'll take you to the middle of the event, at Spring St. and La Mesa Blvd.
