Del Mar: La Jolla

Spanish for "by the sea," Del Mar is just that - a charming town located right next to the Pacific Ocean. Del Mar is home to Torrey Pines State Beach, the Del Mar Racetrack and the annual San Diego County Fair. While only about six blocks make up Del Mar's "downtown," the serenity deemed justifiable is epitomized by the local and chain boutiques, restaurants and bars. Jimmy O's is the place to head for a night on the town, where DJs play today's hottest jams and karaoke is offered throughout the week; Spicca is an upscale restaurant that looks small from the outside but houses three stories, the top with an ocean view.

Carmel Valley is just inland of "by the sea" and is often mistaken as part of the resort town of Del Mar; this inland city features more commercial residences and commercial markets like a mall with movie theater, restaurants, shopping and fodder.
