  • Lake Tahoe in general is just plain cool. The people are laid back, the mountain air is refreshing and there are outdoor activities that you will tell all your friends about.

So how cool can you get up at the lake? If you are adventurous, try some sky diving or parasailing in summer, and snowmobiling and dog sled rides in winter. Or how about a balloon ride or jet ski rental? If you are more inclined to keeping your feet on the ground, try a great hike around Desolation Wilderness or to the top of Mt. Tallac or along the Rubicon Trail.

If you are not an outdoorsy person, stick around the casinos in Stateline, Nevada and hang out with the hip ski crowds at the Heavenly Resort, or the clubbers at the Blu nightclub or Cabo Wabo, or drive into Truckee for some sweet snacks. If you are looking for low key and cool, take a ride to Divided Sky in Meyers or to David Walley's Hot Springs in Genoa.

For the coolest of the cool, get up high. Take the Squaw Valley Tram to High Camp and do some ice skating or hiking. You can also take the Heavenly Tram to several observation posts that look over the entire South Shore. If you want to go fast, take the Heavenly Flyer zip line from the top of Heavenly or the zip line course at Kirkwood.
