  • For a day spent on the slopes, on the lake or on the trails, you have to fuel up. There's no better way to carbo load than to head out for a big breakfast or brunch at one of these popular places at the lake.

Head to some local favorites like the Squeeze In or Jax on the Tracks in Truckee. Both of these places serve up the classic American breakfast including excellent waffles and pancakes. If you want something a little out of the way, go to the Fire Sign Café just south of Tahoe City or the Old Post Office Coffee Shop in Carnelian Bay or to Tahoma Aroma on the West Shore.

Heidi's and the Red Hut Café, both in South Shore, are small, locally owned chain restaurants that are very popular on weekend mornings. For a quick breakfast and coffee, head to Rude Brother's Bagels in South Lake Tahoe for their excellent, chewy bagels.

If you want to fill up as much as you can, head to a casino breakfast or brunch. The Tahoe Biltmore coffee shop, the buffet at Harrah's and the buffet at the Montbleu are all ready to make a pig out of you. For something extra special during the winter, head up to the High Camp at Squaw Valley at have breakfast at 8,200 feet.
