Truckee

Truckee was named after a Paiute chief who was a guide for John C. Frémont and the grandfather of the famous Sarah Winnemucca. This small town has seen some of the most important events in the history of the Sierras including the tragedy of the Donner Party, the Emigrant Trail and the growth of the Transcontinental Railroad. Truckee is known to have some of the coldest winter temperatures in the Tahoe area and never really gets hot in the summer, making it a wonderful place to escape the heat of the lower valleys. Old Truckee is also known for excellent shopping and restaurants.
