Woodfords/Markleeville
These two small towns lie just beyond the Nevada/California border on Hwy 88 and Hwy 89 about 25 miles from the Kirkwood ski area, just south of Lake Tahoe's South Shore. Woodfords has very few services, just a small general store. Markleeville is larger and has several hotels, bars, restaurants and a hot springs resort. Both these small towns are the gateway to Hope Valley and the Mokelumne Wilderness located in the El Dorado National Forest.
