Although there is a small airport in South Lake Tahoe, it primarily serves charter flights, and shuts down often due to inclement weather. By Train:
Train travelers will be able to access Lake Tahoe from either the Truckee, California or Reno, Nevada Amtrak (+1 800 872 7245/ http://www.amtrak.com) stations. Both the Truckee Station (10000 E. River Street) and the Reno Station (245 Evans Avenue) are stops on the scenic California Zephyr Route, which runs between San Francisco, California and Chicago, Illinois.
By Bus:
Greyhound (+1 800 231 2222/ http://www.greyhound.com/) accesses Lake Tahoe from both Truckee, California and Reno, Nevada. The Truckee Station (+1 530 587 3822), located at Glasforms Glass Blowing on 10065 Donner Pass Road, is open 10a-6p daily. The Reno Station (+1 775 322 2970), located at 155 Stevenson Street, is open 24 hours.
By Car:
Interstate 80 provides easy access to Truckee and Reno, while Highway 50 takes drivers straight to the south shores of the lake. Highways 89 and 28 access the north shore.
Getting Around:
Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) (+1 530 550 1212) offers easy transport year-round. Most buses are equipped with bike racks in summer and ski racks in winter.
