Green Creek Trail

Description:

• This 5 mile hike starts at the Green Creek trailhead, where a well-maintained trail ascends through a forested, area with a gentle slope for a while. After walking on a short section of gravel road, the trail climbs at a moderate rate with switchbacks in a few areas. The natural features of this trail change from areas of pines, aspens, and sage into lush vegetation with a great diversity of wildflowers. The aspens make this trail especially beautiful in the fall. Early summer hiking in the trail is muddy and some snow may be found in spots near Green Lake. From mid-June to mid-August the mosquitoes are quite bothersome and repellent is highly suggested, Just short of Green Lake, a junction sign points the way to West Lake and Green Lake. When taking the left fork toward Green and East Lakes after about 200 yards you will reach a stream crossing. Hikers will need creek shoes. After a few more switchbacks you will see Green Lake. The trail continues to East Lake (1.5 miles). This trail will take you across several more stream crossings. From Bridgeport, Take U.S. Highway 395 for approximately 4 miles south, then turn on to the Green Creek Road. Take this road for about eleven miles until you see the Green Creek Trailhead Parking area on your right. Note: The Green Creek road can become quite rough.
