Description:

  • Before Lanai's owners decided to turn it into a charming getaway with big tourist appeal, this was a quiet, locals-only sort of place. Pineapples were the main industry, and the biggest hotel in town was this 11-room place, which Mr. James Dole (yes, as in Dole Pineapples) built to accommodate his guests. The hotel manages to hold its own against the two new resorts because of its charm, history and local feeling. Its low prices only add to the appeal. Rooms are simply furnished with plantation style accessories; televisions are found only in the cottages.
