Public Question Asked by Kenny Lavitz about Lane Cove

Hi, I'd like to find a promoter for a tour of Australia!

I make my living playing funky/jazzy/Blues in Portland Oregon. Last year I toured the Netherlands as a Duo but we had a backup band for some venues. I would love to meet the right person to help me set something like that up. Kenny Lavitz http://www.kennylavitz.com Thanks

Although I'm keen to go to Australia someday to make some of my biggest dreams come true, the truth is I've never been there. However, as you must know, nowadays with the Internet you don't have to go everywhere to learn about new places. You can do a lot of homework on the Internet which is what I've tried to do for you, and I hope it helps.

Here are some websites which you may want to look through (I'm sorry I couldn't select any specific promoter since I'm not a musician and I'm not in Australia):

1) http://www.acn.net.au/website/category/ZXMA65~Music;+Promoters+and+Managers
2) http://www.mediasearch.com.au/music/resources.html
3) http://www.mary4music.com/Mus1.html

If you have problems surfing/browsing the Internet, then let me know and I will try to cut some slack for you :)

Good luck.

I can probably help you with some venues in and around Melbourne, I'm not a promoter but I can certainly assist in getting you around places to speak to Venue Managers and get you some gig's and promotions that way -I would also suggest that you also try out someof our remote areas they always love good travelling entertainment and I can probably help you in and around there as well as finding come inexpensive accommodations etc - more than happy to help and assit you within your budget means - best wishes in your journey down under

Hi Cassandra, Thanks for replying to my tour question! It's really hard to put something like this together without guaranteed gigs, so right now it's in the "dream" stages, but you never know!Contacts like you can help make it happen!I know that your seasons are about opposite of what we have here in Portland, OR USA. Is there a certain time of year you would suggest? Please feel free to respond thru my website if you like. www.kennylavitz.com Thanks

I can fully understand and appreciate where you are coming from - we are always on the look out for " NEW TALENT " here at different venues - I don't work in the music industry - however I am more than happy to drive you around to places and BOOK gig's and venues - you would be very very surprised how many more " Yes' " you will get rather than No's if not repeat performance requests - I can almost certainly guarantee you a definate gig i the Middleof Australia's Outback not just once or Twice either - we would find it more impersonal for you to be ringing up and making gog's and or promotions rather than face to face where you can see the venue yourself and make plans and adjustments and or connections with a back up band if you needed it and then really take off from there - I'm in Melbourne - so please feel free to ask me any help or assistance you want in making this come about - we have far too many places to offer you a gig and numbers to call - now for your other questions - Melbourne is what we call a really funny place for the weather - we tend to say around here Melbourne has 4 plus seasons in one day - ( rains for 5 minutes or less ) then burst of Ht sun for 15 minutes, then overcast and cloudy again for most of the day - then a gust of COLD wind later one ), then it alternates every day - no idea what you are gonna get . . . I remember the weather man declaring the next day was gonna be stinking hot - so out I went in a short dress and no jumpers or anything and it RAINED non stop and was bloody cold all day . . . it is more cold than warm here for a starters ( we don't get snow - only in the mountains during our winter and you have to travel there for snow ) and we get a small few days in the summer where it is a joke of how hot it can be . . . ok now aother question in Christmas and School Holidays places here hike up their prices and most of us take off to Queensland November to Februray and they really hike up their prices during that time - yet at the same time across the border in the Northern Territory the prices come crashing down because it is desert out there and really really really hot but dirt cheap for travel and accommodations etc - and then it's pricesgo up between May and October when it is the expensive season to do anything over that part of our country . . . Melbourne and Sydney and Adeaide and Hobart and Perth are consistant year around -so I guess you really need to plan where you want to go and how you want to travel and do your tour, sometimes it is better to just to a quick tour on a rush right around to get a feel for the place and venue and then decide and then plan an even bigger tour - that is what most tend to do then they decide the places they want to do a return performance gig and wher they don't want to play - we also have some rough areas of Melbourne to -the outer areas of Melbourne will attract the " Red Neck " crowds which we call " Bogan's " whereas inner Melbourne will attract a mixed crowd with a little more class and culture, I know that the Chaise Lounge is a really jazz and Blues type club located right in the heart of Melbourne that may be a good starting point for you ?? let me know how you go . . best wishes

Cassandra, Thanks so much for the info. Sounds like the best bet would be if I was able to go over for about a month & see how many gigs I could get to offset the expense.I'm not in a position to do that now but might be later in 2010! I will definitely keep your info, so don't be surprised if you hear from me then! Kenny

Hiya Kenny

I'm actually quite a very very resourceful person when it comes to getting some really really cheap and or inexpensive deals happening, so I can probably make it happen a lot sooner for youthan you ralise, 2010 is really quite a long way off - I'll give you some of our own website's to have a look at - what you must remember though is that Your USA DOLLAR is a lot more than our OUR Aussie Dollar - I cannot give you the exact conversion - but an estimate would be your USA $1.00 would ALMOST on some days and times be worth $2.00 here again depending on the daily currency exchange rate . . . so you could get a realgood deal - if you wanted an exact approximation I would suggest you get a FREE Paypal account and convert your money ( cyber wise ) to get an estimate.

ok here is some cheaper Aussie websites to get you started on some accommodations and or flights for you - I never say Never give up, I love brick walls - and I love finding ways around them !!! most people think and feel they have to fly out via New York through England and then Asia to Australia . . that would be the MORE expensive way to do it, flying via California and Los Angelas to Hawaii or Tahiti and then swapping planes to one of our discount airlines, would be the CHEAPEST way to do it . . . again just a suggestion for you to try and look at

try these . . .

www.jetstar.com.au

www.qantas.com.au

www.lastminute.com.au

www.tigerwairways.com.au

www.virginblue.com.au

www.quickbeds.com.au

www.wotif.com.au

we have many more sights to pick and choose - remember though I am Melbourne ( Victoria ) based and Australia is VERY VERY Large - you won't realise just how large we are until you get here !! and we have a lot to see and or do and most of all offer you- I am more than happy to help and or assit you in getting yourself settled even for a 1 month saty and driving you around toplaces and to venues to tee some stuff up and or gig's for you and inspect some venues - please feel free to ask and let me introduce you to my world and culture - I belive you will be pleasantly surprised if you don't even end up Immigrating here . . . who knows most people who do some to vist decide they would rather move here in the end when they see what we hav to offer you- plus with you at least you'll have my " Protection " from any of us playing any " Jokes " or practical jokes we like to spin tales and stories on those not familiar with the Australian culture such as telling tourist to wear " Vegemite " on their upper lips and ears to ward off " Killer Koala's " and 10 foot tall Tasmanian Devils . . .

most importantly you mut obtain a Working Visa to be able to legally work here in Australia.

please decide which parts of Australia you would like to see - we really do have a lot to offer and if you would prefer to be living and or staying in a hotel as you move about from Venue to venue ot would youprefer that I set you up in a house or unit and get you some inexpensive furniture to make you a little more comfortable during your stay here . .

thanks and best wishes

Hiya again Kenny

I found this link to a regular " Blues Festival we have here in Australia - I'm not sure if you have heard of it or not - it isn't near me by any means however I have provided the link for you to check it out

http://www.bluesfest.com.au/

I have also included the name of a place that regularly holds " Acts " they promote you by means of a Large Banner out the front and offer show only for a set or or " Dinner and Show " price tickets - I'm not sure how it works - but I can say they do in fact have a Hotel attached to the side that is extremely inepensive and includes a continental breakfast each morning - I have attached their website link for you to have a look at and or make any enquiries for yourself as a start - this place is like just around the corner from me ( 5 mins by car ) -

http://www.hotelshoppingtown.com.au/index_html

I can also look around at other places as well -I know Ayers Rock and Possibly King's Canyon in the Northern Territory would also offer you a regular gig . . no where near to me, but still a beautiful place to check out - hope these are a star for you - take care Cassandra

hi again Kenny

Sorry to be a pest but I found these other links -not sure if they are any good or helpful - I rang the Hotel Shoppingtown and they told me to ring " Tattslotto " who book and or organise all their shows as they are run and owned by Tattslotto - So I'll have to look up their website for you as well

and then you can try them that way and at the same time ask for a list of ALL their venues to see if you can get a booking / gig done there. Tattslotto cover's most of Australia's states etc - You can ask me for any help with regards to destinations / maps and distance etc and try and work it out from there

also try these links as well

Hopefully you can find some helpful links above and or plan a basic tour, but it would be better and cheaper for you to do this in person given the time difference and call costs to try ad get the information out of some people who over the phone can be quite UNHELPFUL and UNFRIENDLY while you try and get the information you need out of them - so perhaps using the lunks you may either check out the venues via the website and obtain their locations and addresses and or phone numbers and then give me a list of them if you like and I can put together a MAP or plan of attack for you no use in ending up on one side of the town to the other better to group them all together and attack it that way for bookings - I can give you my Personal MSN as well to contact me away from this site for extra information you may need and or require

Take care
