Description:
This museum was founded in 1861 and remained rather sleepy until 1937, when it gained a collection of 1,700 artifacts (mainly from Greece, Rome, Egypt, Cyprus, and Asia Minor) as well as a collection of French painting and sculpture. The latest attraction is an annex in the courtyard of the museum, where you can visit the restored Chapelle Romaine des Templiers (Chapel of the Templars), originally associated with the Crusades of the Knights Templar. The chapel is noteworthy for its medieval stonework.
