According to Las Vegas mythology, the Strip began in 1946 when mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel opened his swanky, ultra-modern hotel, the Flamingo--the first version of a Las Vegas luxury hotel. Sixty-four years later, Las Vegas still offers an abundance of luxurious accommodations, complete with spas, gourmet restaurants, and world-class shows. Hotel décor runs the gamut from recreated bygone eras to sleek and modern. Las Vegas luxury hotels have changed since Bugsy, and they're still evolving.
No other hotel is as lauded and awarded as Wynn Las Vegas, along with its sister property, Encore. Wynn won record-breaking numbers of Five Star Forbes awards for three years in a row--and it's the only resort in the world to have won so many.
Mandalay Bay shares its site with two luxurious properties, THEhotel and the Four Seasons. Set somewhat off the Strip, these hotels offer guests a more secluded, exclusive experience apart from the usual Las Vegas hotel.
Far outside of town, Loews Lake Las Vegas is a good choice for a complete retreat. Located just outside Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Loews doesn't have a casino on site, but it does offer transportation to and from the Strip.
