  • A trip to Hoover Dam is a must-do for many Las Vegas visitors, and the area around Boulder City and Hoover Dam offers many things to do. The immense man-made lake created by Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, is a great place for sight-seeing, boating, fishing, and exploring. Marinas rent boats and jet skis. Cruises give visitors a chance to see the lake from out on its waters-no rentals necessary. While Lake Mead holds many recreational opportunities, it's not the only thing to do near Hoover Dam and Boulder City.

Before you start exploring this area, however, you can easily spend several hours at Hoover Dam. Hoover Dam is a historic structure and an architectural wonder. Fully completed in 1936, the dam not only tamed the Colorado River and created Lake Mead, it is also a power plant. Tours take visitors inside the dam, although walking around its Art Deco exterior is a great way to learn some history and be amazed at the incredible structure-not to mention get great photographs.

In Boulder City, the town that was built for the workers at Boulder Dam (it was later renamed Hoover Dam), visitors can ride historic trains at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. At the Boulder Dam Hotel, the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum details the history behind the workers and the construction of the dam.

For the adventurous, Bootleg Canyon is home to both an Epic-rated bicycle trail and a zipline tour. If you're a golfer, you'll find Boulder City is a popular place for golfers-Cascata and the Boulder City Golf Course are two popular choices.
