  • In the Las Vegas neighborhood around the airport and Paradise Road, visitors can see more of the residential part of the city, and the things to do in this area reflect that. The campus of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas is located in this neighborhood. On campus and nearby, visitors can see museums and art galleries. While the airport/Paradise Road neighborhood offers an alternative to the Strip, visitors who want to find more traditional Vegas-style things to do won't be disappointed, either.

The Atomic Testing Museum is on the edge of the UNLV campus. Its exhibits tell the story of the atomic bomb and the Nevada Test Site's role in its development. Artifacts, photographs, and simulations trace the bomb's history from its advent to modern day. Nearby on UNLV's campus, the Marjorie Barrick Museum and the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery give visitors a sample of a completely different side of Las Vegas.

On Paradise Road, the Hard Rock Hotel Casino has a surplus of Vegas-style glitz. It's also one of Las Vegas' most hip hotel casinos, filled with rock 'n roll memorabilia, trendy restaurants, and a popular pool club scene. Further north on Paradise Road, the Hilton Hotel Casino represents an earlier era in Las Vegas, but that's not to say it's outdated. Its sportsbook is enormous, and the Hilton's close proximity to the Las Vegas Convention Center makes it a natural choice for convention attendees.

The Boulevard Mall features average retailers like Sears and J.C. Penney; this is a non-glitzy, Vegas residential shopping mall. At Sunset Park, you can picnic and watch the planes landing just a couple of blocks away.
