  • Las Vegas is filled with a variety of things to do-and if you'd like something active to do, Vegas has you covered. Surrounded by natural beauty and home to several top-notch golf courses, Las Vegas is a great place to get moving. Working off the buffet shouldn't be any problem, because Las Vegas has a long list of active things to do.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area attracts rock climbers from around the world. The distinctive Navajo sandstone (also known as Aztec) is beautiful to look at and a challenge to climb. Climbers should check Red Rock's website for specifics about the routes and restrictions prior to climbing.

The mountain biking trails in Boulder City's Bootleg Canyon have earned the highest marks from mountain bikers. The trails come in varying levels of difficulty, but the desert is challenging no matter how hard the trail is. In summer, nighttime rides are allowed and give riders the chance to stay out of the heat.

Mount Charleston is the third highest peak in Nevada, rising to almost 12,000 feet. Both the South and North Loop Trail will take you to the peak, but be prepared for rocky territory and a narrow trail. The South Loop is known for its miles of switchbacks that climb to a meadow, and a trail to Griffith Peak can also be accessed from the South Loop. The altitude here will make you short of breath if you aren't accustomed to it.

If your idea of active is closer to civilization, Las Vegas offers visitors several golf courses. The only one on the Strip is the Bali Hai, located next to Mandalay Bay. For more reasonable rates, try Desert Pines, located downtown.
