Off Beaten Path Attractions in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Strip offers visitors five miles of famous hotels, but what if you're looking for something away from the crowds? A short drive will take you to unusual museums, or into the beautiful Mojave desert.

When visitors think of flying high in Las Vegas, they probably don't think about it literally--but in Boulder City, at the Bootleg Canyon Zip Lines, that's exactly what's in store for your inner daredevil. Riders are strapped into a harness that speeds them along a line, thousands of feet above the desert floor.

If flying isn't for you, you can keep both feet on the ground at the Atomic Testing Museum. Since Las Vegas is close to the Nevada Test Site, it's always had a link with the atomic bomb--at one time, the mushroom-cloud blasts were a draw for tourists. At this unusual museum, visitors will learn about the invention, testing, and development of nuclear bombs. It's a sobering subject, but fascinating.

Las Vegas is surrounded with natural wonders--magnificently colored rocks and cliffs, hidden springs, and even historic places--but you have to leave the Strip to see them. The Valley of Fire, Spring Mountain National Recreation Area, and the Spring Mountain Ranch will take you out of town and into a completely different type of Las Vegas.
