Henderson & Green Valley

Once open desert stood between Las Vegas and Henderson, but today no visible division exists between the cities of Henderson/Green Valley and Las Vegas. Henderson began as the site of the Basic Magnesium Plant, and has been steadily growing ever since. Magnesium was vital to the production of airplane parts and munitions in World War II, and the Henderson plant's output was critical to the United States during the war.

The city's older, historic district is located on Water Street and hosts an Arts Walk every third Thursday of the month. Henderson's downtown has successfully transformed itself into an arts and events center, frequently hosting things like car shows and street festivals. The new sections of Henderson are known as Green Valley, and are recognized for their manicured appearance and whimsical statues along the streets. In recent years, Green Valley has become popular as a younger, hipper part of the Las Vegas valley. The Green Valley Ranch Resort, with its upper-crust shopping mall, The District, is found here. The resort area of Lake Las Vegas is nearby, and the locally popular Sunset Station is located just off US95.

Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and Boulder City are a short drive from Henderson/Green Valley. The Galleria Mall, Ethel M's Chocolates, and the ever-popular Cheesecake Factory are located in Henderson/Green Valley. Like most of Las Vegas' outlying residential neighborhoods, Henderson/Green Valley is a good choice for travelers who want to stay away from the crowds on the Strip.
