Neighborhood Description

Paradise & Airport Area

The Paradise Road/Airport neighborhood sits just a little southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. The Hilton and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino are here, as well as the non-gaming Alexis Park and Platinum. A row of restaurants along Paradise Road from Twain to Flamingo offers diners a wide range of solid dining options: Ruth's Chris, Gordon Biersch, P.F. Chang's, and Yolie's Brazilian Steakhouse. Business diners can be found here in abundance during lunch. The Swiss Café, which is a short drive from this neighborhood, is well worth the detour for a delicious lunch.

This area is also adjacent to UNLV, home to the Sam Boyd Stadium. The Atomic Testing Museum is located just off the grounds of UNLV at Flamingo just east of Paradise, and it explains the history of the atomic bomb, complete with a "Ground Zero" theater that re-creates the experience of watching an atomic blast from a bunker. Atomic tests were conducted not far from Las Vegas (at the Test Site), and in the days of above-ground nuclear testing, people in Las Vegas could see the mushroom clouds.

If you're looking to stay away from the crowded Strip, this area is a good choice. Business meetings and conferences are popular in this area's restaurants, and if you have to get around town, it's much easier access in and out than if you're staying on the Las Vegas Strip.
