• Description:

    • Just a few block off Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, Big Mama's is a locally-owned barbecue and Southern Style restaurant that's known to locals, but not many tourists. If you want to find authentic barbecue in Las Vegas—or just non-chain restaurants—you'll have to leave the tourist zone and venture into the neighborhoods. Big Mama's is in a building that used to be a McDonald's, and if you don't know it's there, it is easy to miss.

The menu offers barbecue everything: beef, pork, chicken, ham, rib, and  hot links. You can also have fried chicken, fried catfish, or fried pork chops. Cajun and Creole dishes like blackened catfish or chicken breast are also served. You'll also find traditional, deep-South dishes like ox tails, ham hocks, pigs feet, and chitterlins. Prices for lunch or dinner are very reasonable.

Downtown Las Vegas is an urban area that has been around for a while—this is an older neighborhood that not everyone feels comfortable in. If you're uncomfortable in areas that are not shiny, new, and sanitized, you may not like Big Mama's. If, however, you enjoy home-cooked, down-South style barbecue and specialties, check them out.
