Weekend in Las Vegas

Description:

Do you need to get away from it all—the job, the kids, the daily routine? The perfect solution is a weekend in Las Vegas. Find a sitter and leave the kids at home for this weekend escape. Indulge yourself and enjoy all the grown-up entertainment you can handle. After three days of hip nightclubs, spectacular shows, pampering, and world-class restaurants, you’ll be tempted to call in sick and stay a little longer. Las Vegas hotels are offering great deals these days, which will leave a few extra dollars in your wallet to spend at the tables. If Lady Luck is with you, you might even win enough to cover part of the weekend. --Thanks to Chad Matthews for his picture of the Strip.--

Day 1 - Las Vegas

Mandalay Bay is more than just a hotel and casino. Its restaurants, amazing pool (complete with a sandy beach and lazy river), luxury spa, and nightclubs make it the perfect hotel to use as a base for your Las Vegas escape. After you arrive on your first day, visit MB’s Border Grill for a late lunch or dinner. The Border Grill’s entrees give traditional Mexican dishes a modern twist. Sip a Margarita while you check out the view of the pool and lazy river. After your meal, take a walk down the Strip to see the sights. If you don’t feel like taking a walk, take the tram to the pyramid next door, the Luxor (and on to the Excalibur, if you want to see knights and ladies). Walk or take a taxi down the Strip to see the Bellagio’s Fountains and the Paris Las Vegas, where you can take a ride to the top of its mini-Eiffel Tower before you head back to the hotel to check out a nightclub. Rumjungle is a great place to dance, or you can enjoy the incredible view from the 43rd floor at the Foundation Room, which recently relaxed its members-only policy to admit the public after 11:00 p.m

Day 2 - Las Vegas

Today is the day to do some sight-seeing, shopping, ride a rollercoaster or two, or take in a show. Begin your day with breakfast or brunch at the Bayside Buffet, which overlooks the MB’s tropical lagoon. After breakfast, take a trolley, use the monorail, or grab a taxi and make your way to the north end of the Strip to take in the view from the tallest structure west of the Mississippi, the Stratosphere. Daredevils will want to try some of the rides at the top. Work your way back down the Strip with stops for whatever grabs your attention—indoor races and a rollercoaster at the Sahara’s Cyber Speedway, or trendy shopping at the Fashion Show Mall. At the New York-New York, you can try their 67 m.p.h. rollercoaster. Back at Mandalay Bay, you might want to have a quick burger at the Burger Bar before you head out to see one of the Cirque de Soleil productions in town. Finish off the evening (which might actually be the early morning) with a stop at the Venetian to see Venice, Las Vegas style. You’ll also be right across the street from the Mirage’s volcano and the Treasure Island’s “Sirens of the TI” show. At the Venetian, enjoy a casual meal overlooking the canals at the Taqueria Canonita, or try the hip scene at Tao.

Day 3 - Las Vegas

After all that fun yesterday, you’ll want a day to unwind and relax before you head back home. The House of Blues Gospel Brunch will help wake you up after your late night, and then it’s off to be massaged and pampered. The Spa Mandalay or the Four Seasons Spa both offer luxurious treatments from deep tissue massages to pedicures. Spend the rest of the day at the pool, at the tables, or exploring the shops at the Mandalay Place. Top off your trip with dinner at Aureole, where you can watch the “wine angels” performing Cirque-worthy feats in the wine towers.
