Shopping in Lausanne is characterized by its extreme variety of offers forthose who may be looking for Hermés, Louis Vuiton, and Cartier which all have shops here, or just a taste of local cheeses and Swiss wines along with Swiss artisan crafts and Swiss souvenirs to take home. Assuming that you came to Switzerland to buy Swiss articles, I have provided a variety of shops that are not touristy.
Although Globus is large department store, the most fascinating department is the gourmet food section with international items as well as fresh produce, cheeses, meats, breads for the locals and a sommelier to help you with wine selection. For more Swiss tasting try the "fromagerie", André Macheret who specializes in dairy products from Gruyère. For an excellent selection of mountain sports gear (and expertise) go to Passe Montage (my first choice). Closer in town is Schaefer Sports with good quality equipment at reasonable prices. You can't leave Switzerland without a Swiss watch so stop by Guillard jewelers and don't' forget the hand-made chocolates at Mojonnier (where I buy all my Christmas gifts).
At first the little Heidi's shop will appear touristy. but I assure you they have been here forever and if you want some authentic (or just fun) Swiss souvenirs, then it's Heidi's shop for you. They share the space with the Swiss-Knife shop where you can buy any model of Victorinox Swiss Army knives and anything else that cuts (I get my scissors sharpened here).
For fashion and general articles I recommend Ausoni (expensive), Bon Genie (great variety) and Manor department store (also have Swiss souvenirs of quality).
