Description:
- For a glimpse into a centuries-old Peruvian tradition, join devotees for the Lord of the Miracles procession in honor of the capital city's patron saint. This celebration has such impact on Peruvian culture that October is commonly known as "the violet month" due to the thousands of followers who swathe themselves in purple garments for this religious rite. An image of Christ, said to have miraculously survived a devastating earthquake in 1655, is carried on a two-ton litter borne on the shoulders of devotees. The procession winds through downtown Lima from the Church of Las Nazarenas to La Merced Church.
