Since gastronomy is booming in Peru, there's always some new restaurants opening every month. But more than that: restaurants in Lima are usually offering new creating new dishes, so it's worth coming back often. You will notice that some places with the reputation of being the best ones are usually full. But our list of suggestions will surely keep on growing from now on.
First things first. Lima is a coastal city and seafood is very important part of local gastronomy: you will find some of the best examples at El Veridico de Fidel, in La Molina, and El Hawaiano, in Barranco. The first one focuses on re-creating old classics, while the latter offers you the chance of trying a little bit of this and a little bit of that with its huge all-you-can-eat buffet.
More traditional food can found at Lo Nuestro (more creole buffet), Kamcha (a boutique-restaurant) and El Candelabro (fusion); all of these are still new places but have quickly won an excellent reputation, and we are sure you will enjoy them very much.
Two very original options among new places are La Taberna de Don Francisco and its excellent wines and drinks, located in the middle of Lima Downtown, and the sandwiches of 305 Sur, whose owner is always trying to come up with new recipes and offers to please the most exigent client.
