Lima is located in a coastal valley. It's a desert coast. So Lima is basically surrounded by desert landscapes. But there are also other valleys nearby, not to mention than Lima also has some beautiful parks in the city, and some districts located in the countryside.
If escaping from Lima, you can choose between an excursion to the Pachacamac ruins (which can be done via the Mirabus), booking an excursion to the Lomas the Lachay to see some of the native flora and fauna, or having either a picnic by the river or a complete lunch at any Chaclacayo or Chosica restaurant, by depending on your personal preferences and on the season.
Pachacamac and Lachay are better in summer and fall, while Chaclacayo and Chosica are better between April and October (to avoid the Andean rainy season)
If you are a surfer or simply a beach lover, pay a visit to the Circuito de Playas Costa Verde, the classic Lima beaches, alongside Miraflores and Barranco seashore.
And if you are just looking for some green landscapes inside the city, you will enjoy some of the largest Lima parks: the Gran Parque de Lima, full of artistic activities and shows all the time; the Magic Water Circuit, which features the largest fountains with light effects, according to the Guiness Book of records; the Bosque del Olivar, also called Olivar de San Isidro, a small paradise for birdwatchers; or, if you are with your kids, the largest Lima Zoo, the Parque de las Leyendas.
