Iglesia de San Agustín

Iglesia de San Agustín - Lima

  • Description:

    • This church suffered extensive damages as a result of both the Civil War and a series of earthquakes. As a result, its tower and magnificent stone-carved façade no longer exist. (The façade you see now is baroque, and dates from the 18th century.) The main façade, the lateral walls and the main courtyard, with its beautiful arches, remained standing, and other valuable objects such as the choir stalls and the painting collection were also saved. Other notable features of the church are the magnificent stucco ceiling in the ante sacristy and the famous sculpture of death by Baltasar Gavilan. Admission and guided tours are free of charge.
