Description:
- October is the time for religious festivals in Peru. Throughout the country, devotees honor the Virgin of the Rosario on the first Sunday of October with prayers, songs, dancing and processions. In colonial times, the Dominican Order revered the Virgin as its patron saint. Today, the Santo Domingo Monastery in Lima is home to the city's altar to the Virgin, and is a central gathering place for those who worship her. The monastery's church, which was initially built in 1540, is one of the oldest religious structures in Lima and is still fairly well preserved.
