• The international scope of its programme makes the Belém Cultural Centre one of Portugal's most respected performing arts venues. Widely known as the CCB, world-class productions are staged here on a monthly basis and encompass classical and contemporary dance, theatre, and concerts by the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra. Experimental jazz is given an important voice, as is world music and choral works. Poetry readings, recitals and the screening of film and video add further dimension to the cultural agenda. The building is divided into several auditoria and dedicated space for workshops and masterclasses. The CCB is home to the Berardo Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and also functions as a major conference venue. Several restaurants and cafés are among the leisure options for visitors and there are a number of specialist bookshops and art galleries scattered within the building's contemporary framework. The building was designed by Vitorio Gregotti and Manuel Salgado, and the interior was created by Daciano Costa. The centre is divided into four large areas, the meeting area, the show area, the exhibition area, and an area which focuses on the art of animation and the teaching of art.
