  • NileGuide Expert Says:

This is the place to go for a slice of authentic Austrian cooking.

  • Description:

    • When Austrians Christoph Hubmayer and Konrad Tretter decided to open a Viennese-style coffee house in the centre of the Portuguese capital the two young entrepreneurs caught the imagination of Lisbon's trendy urban set. Located in Chiado, a short walk from the Neo-Classical Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, this delightfully informal restaurant-café maintains its character by way of a single wall decorated with colourful Austrian music and theatre posters. The polished wood furniture helps percolate a warm, homely atmosphere. The central European flavour is accentuated by delicious wienerschnitzel (breaded veal cutlet) and sachertorte (chocolate cake) menu options. The list also includes healthy salads and fruit juices. Smart, uniformed staff service tables diligently. More a lunchtime haunt than evening venue, Kaffeehaus looks out over a pedestrianised street where afternoon coffee and a slice of apfelstrudel (apple pastry) can be enjoyed over a soundtrack of chiming bells and playful seagulls. © NileGuide2011
