Kicks convention out of the door and welcomes a more experimental crowd.
NileGuide Expert tip:
Come as you are - it's the music that counts!
- Arguably Lisbon's most underground live-music venue, this club's cult status is such that the frontage is totally bereft of signage or neon. It lurks under brick arches in a frankly less than salubrious neighbourhood near Cais do Sodré – so its street cred is impeccable! The club shuns mainstream acts and instead actively promotes the alternative scene. Homegrown talent shares centre stage with overseas guest artists and some truly innovative performers have headlined here. The range of music played is broad and encompasses drum 'n' bass, electronic soul, indie rock, hip-hop, jazz, dance and reggae. Music Box also showcases new media events including pod casts and video, and non-musical gigs like poetry slam nights further broaden an already eclectic agenda. Door policy is refreshingly relaxed and when charged, admission prices are very reasonable. Shows and concerts usually begin around 10pm. For DJs, don't expect anything before midnight. © NileGuide2011
Party nights don't get any better than this, at the MusicBox you can hear every type of rhythm emanating from the speakers. Known for great live music, as most of the bands that play here are as such, but on certain nights they set up the "wheels of steel" and spin records. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, since on any given night you may run into people of all kinds, reggae aficionados, trendy fashionistas, jazz buffs and the like. The decor is modern, complete with a massive video wall and what's better is that there is no dress code, so come as you are.
