NileGuide Expert Says:
This is the only Irish pub in Lisbon that's actually run by an Irishman. An original Gaelic watering hole, the atmosphere is pure Emerald Isle.
NileGuide Expert tip:
This is a smoking designated bar.
Description:
- Established in November 1995, this is the only genuinely owned Irish pub in the city – the proprietor, Conor O'Gílín, hails from Dublin. The dark, pine-furnished interior is adorned with an assortment of decoration, items like old books, oil lamps, sepia photographs and the Irish tricolour. Maintaining the authentic Gaelic atmosphere are the regular live music nights where talented Irish and Portuguese musicians woo customers with traditional toe-tapping drinking songs. Conor sometimes takes to the stage to sing unaccompanied. Cold Guinness and Kilkenny remain favourite tipples, but the bar also serves a range of Portuguese and European beers, wines and spirits. Food is available, at lunchtimes and throughout the evenings. It should be noted however that O'Gílín's has opted to remain a smoking pub, a decision that might deter some diners. The pub attracts an enthusiastic student crowd as well as seasoned expatriates, and weekends are particularly busy. Big-screen sporting events also pull in the punters. Incidentally, Conor is also part of the team that runs Hennessy's Irish Pub, another great venue. © NileGuide2011
The O'Gillins Bar is the most well-known Irish bar in Lisbon where you can taste some of the best Guiness Beer, listen to Irish music and really have a good time. Saturday nights are specially fun because of all the people that get together to have a nice chat or just to enjoy a drink. - © wcities.com 2012
