Reservatório da Mãe d'Água das Amoreiras

Description:

  • Built to receive and distribute the water from the Águas Livres aqueduct, this reservoir was built in 1834. An essential component of the urban water supply, this reservoir was conceived of by the Hungarian architect Carlos Mardel. The structure sits elevated in relation to the roads that circumnavigate it. The reservoir is seven meters deep with a capacity of about 5500 cubic meters (1,452,946 gallons). This space is now used as a venue for various cultural events, such as expositions, concerts, and theatrical performances.
