Portugal is noted for its endearing family values, and the Portuguese worship kids. Small children are doted upon, adored and made a fuss of.
In this country the family is taken very seriously and visitors with youngsters in tow are especially welcome.
In Lisbon, family-friendly accommodation is abundant, and the choice of hotels catering for parents and their offspring makes the city an excellent destination for a family vacation.

At the Tivoli Oriente in Parques das Nações, east of the city centre, the hotel's T/Kids programme arranges special 'Family Experience' tours, and youngsters can also download colouring and activity books at no extra charge. Similarly, the Tivoli Jardim in the city centre can organise fun-packed Lisbon Buggy Trips. This property also has an inviting outdoor swimming pool for exclusive use by guests.
The 3-star Hotel Roma, while not so grand as some of its neighbours, provides 44 Family Rooms, of 2+1 beds, or 2+2 beds.

Back at Parque das Nações, the Tryp Oriente is also regarded as family-friendly. This modern 4-star offers Family Rooms - rooms with bunk beds for kids and a double for parents. The rooms have toys, a Baby Kit and gift packs for toddlers.
For long-term stays it's worthwhile considering an aparthotel like the VIP Executive Suites Eden. Its 75 studio units include double rooms and 2-bedroom apartments that can accommodate up to 4 people. For a more traditional experience, the Family Macedo guesthouse with its antique décor has three apartments for 4-5, 6-9 or 9-12 persons. All have heating, air conditioning and TV as standard, and there's a private swimming pool in the garden.
