Description:

This regal property dates from the mid-15th century and was once home to counts and the nobility. Built over original Roman and Moorish foundations and positioned very near Castelo de São Jorge, guests can choose from a select range of sumptuous, individually furnished suites built on several levels. Nearly all furnishings and artefacts are original, lending the building a museum-like quality. A series of exquisite early 18th-century blue-tiled panels further embellish the hallowed interior. The Palacio's manager is often available to escort residents on a private tour of the building. Don't pass over the opportunity. In keeping with the sense of history, TV and private internet are conspicuously absent. Instead, tranquillity and seclusion prevail. High walls surround a spruce garden and a stylish black granite swimming pool fringed by a wooden deck. The East Terrace, built in 1640, provides dramatic views of Alfama, Lisbon's oldest district. One concession to antiquity is the contemporary canvases hanging in the high-arched Art Café Belmonte. © NileGuide2011
