    Description:

    • According to Portuguese culinary folklore, there are 365 ways of preparing bacalhau, or codfish. That's a different dish for every day of the year. True or not, a fair number of them are served here which is why the restaurant operates under the sobriquet o rei do bacalhau – king of the codfish! This is the place to sample the country's national dish, its "faithful friend", in all its delicious variations. A favourite is bacalhau com natas e espinafres, flaked cod cooked with chopped garlic, chopped onion and olive oil baked in the oven and mashed with potato and cream and served with spinach. They also do a house special – couvada de bacalhau à Pereira da Laurentina, a traditional dish prepared using ingredients from Portugal's central northern interior. Surprisingly, the menu also lists a couple of dishes from Mozambique that lends a touch of spice to the flavour of this friendly and welcoming establishment. © NileGuide 2011
