- Lanterns, bright lights, streamers and decorations adorn each and every house and street in Lisbon during Festas dos Santos Populares. This colourful event takes place in June to honor revered saints. Saint Antonio is honored from 12-13 June, Saint John from 23-24 June, and Saint Peter from 28-29 June. Apart from this, dancing, singing and feasting on traditional delicacies goes on right through the week. Another special tradition is that of people presenting each other with little pots of basil, and poems written on paper carnations. Festas dos Santos Populares symbolizes brotherhood, love and happiness.
