The only original venue left standing from Lisbon’s 1940 Portuguese World Exposition.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

The beautiful wall murals extend the Portuguese cultural theme throughout the building.

    Description:

    • The museum is housed in the only surviving building from the Exposição do Mundo Português (Portuguese World Exhibition), held in Lisbon in 1940. Unfortunately, the majority of the exhibits are currently being refurbished and the floorspace is given over to temporary art exhibitions and other cultural attractions. However, these events do allow the visitor to admire the wonderful wall murals depicting bygone coastal and rural scenes. Fortunately, the museum's lobby doubles up as a shop where books, earthenware pots from Guimarães, decorative flowers made of wood paste from Coimbra, clay daisies from Lisbon, assorted cork artefacts and other pastoral artwork can be admired and purchased. An adjoining café provides light refreshments.
