Jackboy Hill

Description:

  • This is a good, safe vantage point to view some of the eastern areas devastated by the Soufriere Hills Volcano in 1997, including the former airport. Jackboy Hill is located off to your right after a hilly drive, which reveals some spectacular if rather bleak scenery. A driver or guide, and binoculars are recommended. If visiting this spot at night, the glowing of the distant volcano can sometimes be seen as incandescent rocks descend the deserted eastern side. A little further along the main road is a barrier preventing access to the Exclusion Zone, which is strictly out of bounds, and this should be respected.
